“It Opened”

How to explain a subjective experience that a mind altering substance can give us?

How to give visual means to such an experience without telling a story but only using symbols?

In my art I want to give answers to both. It comes from a deep need to connect to others. See through my eyes! Feel what my senses perceive!  This way you get a glimpse into my inner being, and that is precious to me.

This substance is well known and many people can describe various experiences on it. I wanted to capture the “journey” and the changes in perception, so that people who know, and those who don’t, will be able to recognise/perceive it.

First we have the “coming up” stage, when you’re not quite there, but the substance is already weaving its way into the fabric of your reality. In the painting this part is clearly visible in the vulcano-like shape in the bottom. The moment it “opens”, (chemically inside our brain) is the changing of color into something bright and pure. As it happens it transforms into an eruption of pink bubbles.

The pink bubbles symbolize perfection, harmoney, beauty, and lightness. The vibration is changed, the frequency is different and reality is “good to us” for the next 5 hours. Slowly the fluffiness subsides, but comes back in fluffy waves of warmth and magic.

There is another aspect to this substance, not just the fun and pleasant part, but also a deeper, philosophical experience. MDMA opens some additional awareness and introspection. In times this leads to spiritual realizations. I wanted to capture this as well in the structure of the torus, and what looks like cosmic waves. If it looks like space, that’s a valid association.

I would go further to say it is the union of masculine and feminine energies. The eternal energies creating new bubbles of universes. An orgasm.
